Travel photography focuses in on capturing the thrilling experience of visiting a new place, exploring different worlds, revisiting nostalgic hidden gems, and documenting memorable adventures through pictures. This category pushes photographers out into the wild to showcase the beauty of landmarks, architecture, local areas, and fun, unique moments that will last a lifetime. Members are welcome to submit photographs from vacation destinations, road trips, international travel, or meaningful local destinations that convey a story through photo composition and environment. Strong travel photography often combines scenery with emotion, helping the viewer to fell connected to the location itself and the experience. All members, or those submitting, are encouraged to experiment with different mediums of light, zoom, shutter speed, and framing to capture visually engaging works of art that communicate the personality of the destination captured.
Cultural photography focuses on capturing different lifestyles, celebrations, traditions, and meaningful events that reflect the identity and experiences of different communities across the globe. The category of Culture begs for the creative mind of the photographer to direct their attention to the documentation of festivals, live music, the arts, fashion, food traditions, local customs, and everyday life that represent cultural diversity and the intimacy of human connection. Camera wilders are encouraged to utilize contrast, lighting, bright colors (or lack thereof), movement (or lack thereof), and attention to detail to provide a story in which is being captured. This category reminds photographers that each and every individual culture has a unique perspective, history, and a multitude of traditions that are worth documenting and celebrating while also expressing appreciation through the creative lens.
Landscape photography is centered around capturing the beauty of natural environments in their most raw state, focusing on outdoor scenery through creative visual composition. This category opens the idea up to members to think outside the box, what story can be conveyed through the most simplistic floor in which we walk? Members are encouraged to capture content surrounding mountains, forests, glaciers, lakes, rivers, boulders, beaches, sunsets, rainforests, deserts, and any other forms Mother Nature has provided. A strong landscape image often communicates mood and atmosphere through the eye of the lens, also helping viewers feel more connected to the environment encapsulated in time.
